National cadres start maintenance of iron smelting plant in Hama

Hama, SANA- The national engineering and technical cadres at the General Company for Iron and Steel Products in Hama began comprehensive maintenance work for the iron smelting plant.

The maintenance operation aims at improving the quality and efficiency of production at the plant, as it is an essential source of the pellet which is used by iron rolling factories as the basic raw material in the manufacture of iron products.

General Manager of the Company, Eng. Abdel Nasser Mishaan, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the maintenance work in the smelting plant includes two arc furnaces and their bases, transformers of the furnaces, in addition to the maintenance of the crucible furnace, two casting machines, bridge cranes, cooling water circuit and the crucible waste pit, which can accommodate 30 tons of molten pellet and scrap preparation equipment of scissors and compressors.

Mishaan underlined the importance of this achievement by the technicians and workers of the company, which is one of the leading companies in Syria in this field, expecting the completion of maintenance work early next March.

For his part, Production Director at the company, Engineer Abdul Karim Abdullah, said that the company is following up on the work of developing the oxygen lab, which provides pure oxygen and secures the needs of citizens and the public and private sectors of the material, especially in light of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Abdullah added that the oxygen plant is also currently undergoing maintenance work, relying on local expertise and cadres, which saves millions of pounds, indicating that the plant’s production capacity is about 2500 cubic meters of oxygen gas per hour.

It is noteworthy that the company’s estimated profits during the past year exceeded 25 billion Syrian pounds, with the sale of more than 30 thousand tons of pellet, the raw material for iron products, with a value of more than 70 billion Syrian pounds.
