Moscow, SANA-Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov has discussed with UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, the issue of the return of Syrian refugees to their country.
TASS News Agency quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement that during the meeting which was held on Monday, Lavrov drew Grandi’s attention to the necessity of activating the efforts of the international community to guarantee the return of the Syrian refugees to their country, those who will contribute in the recovery and reconstruction in the country.
The statement added that the two sides exchanged viewpoints on the issue of the refugees, the internally displaced and the stateless persons around the world, especially amid the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
The two sides also discussed different aspects of cooperation between the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and Russia, according to the statement.
Grandi, for his part, appreciated Russia’s active role in the exerted efforts to solve the international problems of forced migration and measures taken in Russia to regulate the legal aspects of the refugees and asylum seekers.
