Electricity sector’s top priority maintenance and new projects

Damascus, SANA, Ministry of Electricity was able to overcome the challenges facing the implementation of a plan set to match with the circumstances the country is passing through due to the repeated terrorist attacks targeting electricity sector.
Ministry’s plan for 2014 gave a top priority to the new projects that ensure the delivery of the power supply for all citizens and meet their needs as well as for requirement of production activities in all areas.

Ministry’s maintenance workshops repaired and rehabilitated the damage hit the electricity sector by the armed terrorist organization in several areas to which the army had restored stability and security .

More than 170 workers in the electricity sector were killed while they were doing their duties.

A number of projects have been completed during 2014, including the expansion project of Tishreen power station as it was supplied with a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) unit of 450 megawatt capacity.

Works on completing the expansion project of Jandar power plant continued as the plant was supplied with a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) unit  of 450 megawatt capacity. The plant is expected to put into service by the first half of 2015.

The Ministry sought to complete the expansion project of Deir Ali power -2 generating plant through supplying it with a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) unit of 750 megawatt. The plant is expected to be put into service during the first half of 2015.

The Ministry also signed a memo of understanding with the Education Ministry on spreading the culture of energy awareness and rehabilitating the ministry’s cadres and another one with the Syrian Commission for Family Affairs on promoting the concept of rationalizing energy to the Syrian families.
