Russian Foreign Ministry calls for more efforts to confront ISIS and Jabhet al-Nusra

Moscow, SANA – The Russian Foreign Ministry asserted the need to exert more efforts to confront ISIS and Jabhet al-Nusra and other terrorist and extremist organizations in a manner based on international law and without employing double standards and covert agendas.

In a review of 2014 in terms of foreign policy, the Ministry said that Russia had been working diligently towards acting in unison against extremism in the Middle East and North Africa, with Moscow supporting Security Council resolutions against terrorism.

Regarding the crisis in Syria, the Ministry said that the main element in its agenda is seeking a political solution via comprehensive national dialogue without preconditions on the basis of the Geneva communiqué.

The review also underlined Russia’s efforts in carrying out the disarmament of chemical weapons in Syria, noting that this process has resulted in the disposal of around 98% of chemical weapons elements and production materials in Syria so far, noting that the process for dismantling the remaining 12 chemical weapons sites is underway.
