Afforestation campaign in Damascus Countryside on the occasion of 63rd Tree Day

Damascus, SANA- Damascus Countryside Governorate in cooperation with Ministries of Agriculture and Tourism on Sunday launched an afforestation campaign from Jdaidat Yabous crossing on the Lebanse border.

The campaign which will last till the end of next February comes in coincidence with the 63rd occasion of Tree Day, and it aims at afforesting 400 hectares through planting 150 thousand saplings.

Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform Ahmad al-Qadiri said that his Ministry has “an annual plan for planting and investing every part of the Syrian agricultural lands to meet the citizens’ needs of agricultural products.”

The campaign sends a message to the whole world that Syrians’ life will is stronger than the culture of killing adopted by terrorists who “Kill and burn while we build and plant”, Minister al-Qadiri added in a statement to journalists.

For his part, Minister of Tourism Bishir Yazaji stressed that the campaign delivers several messages as tree is a symbol of amity and peace.

Damascus Countryside Governor Hussein Makhlouf said the campaign started from the crossing because it is considered a cultural gate into Syria as 25 hectares have been afforested, indicating that the “campaign is a part of the reconstruction stage which will continue along with the victories achieved by the Syrian army.”
