Moscow, SANA – Russian Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday that Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, discussed with UN special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, developments of situation in Syria.
“During the meeting, the talks stressed that there is no alternative to the political solution to the crisis in Syria within the framework of a process led and implemented by the Syrians themselves, based on the respect for sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Syria according to UN Security Council Resolution No. 2254,” A statement by the Ministry said.
The statement added the two sides discussed the humanitarian situation in Syria, affirming the need for mobilizing assistance for Syrians all over the country without politicization or preconditions in a way that helps refugees and the displaced return home.
It added that the talks focused on the work of the Committee of Discussing the Constitution which held its fifth meeting at the end of last January in Geneva.
The two sides also reviewed outcomes of the 15th international meeting on Syria within Astana format which was held on February 16 and 17 in Sochi.
In the final statement of the meeting , Guarantor states renewed strong commitment to Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and safety.
