Daraa, SANA-Daraa Fire Brigade, in cooperation with two engines from Nawa Fire Station and the Water Corporation, extinguished a huge fire that broke out on Friday in the Safuqiya Valley in Sahem al- Golan in the countryside of the province.
The commander of Daraa Fire Brigade, Colonel Muhammad Mahamid, told SANA reporter that “the reasons behind the fire that broke out at nine o’clock are unknown,” indicating that the fire lasted for about three and a half hours and affected dense grass and reed trees.
Al-Mahamid added, the wind and the difficulty of descending to the bottom of the valley caused a delay in controlling the fire, pointing out that the long distances forced the firefighters to extend about six to seven hoses to reach the bottom of the valley.
Al-Mahamid indicated that as soon as the fire was under control, the fire engines returned to the place where they were positioned, and one car remained until the morning at the fire place as a precautionary mission for fear of renewed fire.
