Al-Jaafari: unilateral, coercive measures are one of noticeable challenges that face Syria

New York, SANA-Syria’s permanent representative to the UN, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari, affirmed on Thursday that the work of UN in Syria should not be restricted to the humanitarian domain, but it has to include the developmental work too, calling for keeping away from attempts of politicization and offering the necessary support to the Syrian government in its efforts to boost the developmental work.

“One of the most noticeable challenges Syria encounters are the unilateral, coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people, for which the UN Secretary General has called to lift in light of responding to COVID 19 pandemic,” al-Jaafari said in a speech at the 75th session of the 2nd Financial and Economic Committee of the UN General Assembly.

Al-Jaafari referred to the importance of the resolution adopted by the committee since 1996 about the permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian territories, including the Eastern Quds, and the Arab people in the Occupied Syrian Golan over their natural resources.

He expressed Syria’s condemnation of the Israeli occupation acts, its looting and continued exploitation of the natural resources of the Occupied Syrian Golan and the occupied Palestinian lands, harming and endangering them.

Al-Jaafari stressed that the government of the Syrian Arab Republic is looking forward to establishing fair international partnerships based of respecting the International Law and UN Charter, in particular, the principle of the national sovereignty in order to support the efforts of the Syrian governmental institutions for overcoming all challenges imposed by years of  the terrorist war on Syria and the new obstacles resulted by COVID-19 epidemic.
