New York, SANA – Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Majid Takht Ravanchi, reiterated the necessity of the balanced, full and non-discriminatory implementation of banning the use of Chemical weapons in the world.
During a session of the UN Security Council on Monday, Takht Ravanchi, clarified that the issue of banning the use of chemical weapons, Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and the UN Security Council have been used to direct accusations against Syria on the basis of unfounded allegations.
He pointed out that these accusations are being made despite assurances that Syria fulfilled all its obligations which led to the destruction of its entire chemical stockpile and that was also confirmed by the OPCW itself.
“Now, these facts as well as the Syrian government’s significant cooperation with the OPCW and the UN in this regard are being neglected,” the Iranian official said.
He concluded that such behavior represents “unconstructive Policy” that would undermine the position of the Security Council and OPCW’s professionalism and weaken the decision-making process.
