Patriarch Afram, Swiss Federal Councilor discuss Christians’ situation in ME region

Bern, SANA – Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All East Mar Ignatius Afram II discussed with Swiss Interior Minister, Federal Councilor Alain Berset the latest developments in the Middle East region.

Patriarch Afram II touched upon the critical humanitarian situation of the Christians in the region, calling upon the Swiss authorities to boost its stance on the ongoing events by seeking towards establishing peace in the region and helping Christians there remain settled in the land of their forefathers.

The Patriarch reviewed in his meeting with the Swiss official the support being provided by the Syriac Patriarchy in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon for helping the needy and displaced people in those countries, which have been heavily affected by the terrorism striking the region.

Moreover, Patriarch Afram II met with political delegations and representatives from Christian churches in Switzerland at a monastery in Switzerland.

The Patriarch thanked all the Syriac Christians’ friends in Switzerland and all those who support the Syriac Orthodox Church, urging all to pray for peace everywhere, in addition to providing support to the Christians of the East.
