Damascus, SANA- General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums denied what was broadcast on social media about excavations of heavy vehicles at the ancient site of Palmyra, clarifying that a heavy vehicle was used to transport a burial door that was stolen by terrorist organisations.
“After informing the Directorate that a hole with an archaeological burial place was found in Palmyra, Directorate of Antiquities and Museums in Homs searched about the site, in coordination with the authorities concerned, it was discovered that the hole, which is located near the hotel area is dug by the terrorists, where it was observed that a burial door was located in front of the entrance, and it was necessary to move it from its place, so a truck has been used to lift it due to its heavy weight and transport it to the Palmyra Museum, The Directorate told SANA in a statement.
It affirmed that all works in the site were carried out according to scientific standards and after several days of work and documenting the burial site, the Directorate decided to stop work until the required capabilities are available.
The Directorate noted that it has documented hundreds of holes dug by terrorists searching about treasures and archaeological sculptures.
