Romanian President affirms standing by Syria against terrorism

Bucharest, SANA – Romanian President Traian Basescu stressed his country’s support for Syria in the face of extremism and terrorism.

Meeting Greek Orthodox Patriarch John X Yazigi of Antioch and All The East ,who is on a visit to Romania, President Basescu vowed that his country will contribute to conveying the truth about what is taking place in the Middle East region in general and in Syria in particular to the public opinion in Europe.

The Patriarch, for his part, briefed the Romanian President on the situation of the Christians in Syria and Lebanon and the recent developments in the region.

He lauded the President’s attitude of pushing towards a peaceful political solution in Syria, expressing deep regret over the “shameful” international silence with regard to the terrorist groups’ continued abduction of Metropolitan Yohanna Ibrahim, the Syrian Orthodox Archbishop of Aleppo, and Metropolitan Boulous Yazigi, the Greek Orthodox Bishop of Aleppo.
