Damascus, SANA- The Health Ministry on Thursday received a batch of medical aid in framework of the efforts to combat the novel Coronavirus, provided by the Russian Society of “RUSSAR” and the Russian International Organization “Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society” in support of the health sector’s efforts to tackle the virus.
The aid includes protective clothing, medicines and temperature measurement devices.
On April 17th, the Health Ministry on Friday received the first batch of medical aid from Russia that contained 50 respirators, around 10,000 COVID-19 test kits, 1,000 multi-use protective suits, and 1,000 single-use protective suits.
In a statement to journalists, Russian Ambassador in Damascus Alexander Efimov stressed that his country continues to support Syria in all domains, particularly during the current period due to the difficult circumstances resulted from the coronavirus epidemic which necessitate exerting all efforts to combat the spread of the virus.
He added that despite of the continuation of the crisis in Syria for ten years, Syria has the potentials and opportunities to combat the virus successfully.
He underlined that the aid was provided by two charity institutions and from the Russian people to support the Syrian people, asserting that other assistance will be provided continuously.
In a similar statement, Deputy Health Minister Ahmad al-Khlifawi stressed that the Russian support to Syria enhances the deep-rooted relations between the two countries.
Al-Khlifawi underlined that the health institutions in Syria continue despite all difficulties to provide medical services and work on easing the spread of the virus, expressing Syria’s appreciation over support provided by the friendly countries.
For his part, Representative of Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society in Syria Dr. Mtanious Bashour pointed out that the will continue to support the medical side in Syria to confront the coronavirus epidemic.
