New York, SANA- The UN Security Council, at the instigation of the United States, voted against a Russian draft resolution on the delivery of humanitarian aid in Syria through one border crossing.
The AFP quoted President of the Security Council, Permanent Representative of Germany to the United Nations Christoph Heusgen as saying that four countries voted in favor of adopting the draft resolution and seven countries rejected it, while the remaining four countries abstained.
Ahead of the voting, Kelly Craft, US Representative to the UN, launched an incitement campaign against the Russian draft resolution and called on the members of the Security Council to vote against it.
On Wednesday, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vassily Nebenzia announced that his country will introduce a new draft resolution on delivering aid to Syria.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday China and Russia vetoed a draft resolution at the Security Council that exploits the humanitarian situations in Syria and violates its sovereignty as it would have extended authorization for cross-border humanitarian aid in Syria for one year without the approval of its government.
It is noteworthy that the UN Security Council adopted resolution no. 2165, which authorized humanitarian convoys heading to Syria to cross the borders, and its validity is extended every year, and this mechanism is still in place since July 2014.
