Damascus, SANA – The Agriculture Ministry estimated the cherry production for the current season in Syria to be about 49,896 tons.
The director of the vegetarian production department at the Ministry Abdelmouein Qadmani said in a statement to SANA that Syria ranks the first in the Arab world and 6th in the world in production of this fruit.
Qadmani affirmed that nurseries affiliated to the Ministry produced 74,527 grafted cherry saplings last season, which were sold to farmers at nominal prices, adding that this year’s plan is to produce about 104,000 saplings.
