Hasaka, SANA – Fires that broke out in the agricultural fields in Ras al-Ayn region resulted in damage to about 1,000 dunams of wheat fields, and a number of citizens’ houses were burned down after the fires spread to them.
Local sources in Ras al-Ayn told SANA correspondent that a fire broke out in the agricultural land in Khribet al-Banat west of Ras al-Ayn town near the Syrian-Turkish borders, and the fire reached wheat fields and destroyed an area of about 1,000 dunams.
The sources pointed out that the Turkish occupation forces in the area started most of the fires as part of their oppressive practices against locals, depriving them from one of their most vital means to earn their livelihood, adding that a number of houses have also burned down in al-Qatouf and Tal Dhiab villages south of Ras al-Ayn when the fire spread to them.
According to the Hasaka Agriculture Department, fires have destroyed around 10,000 hectares of wheat, and 6,250 hectares of barley, mostly in the areas occupied by the Turkish occupation’s mercenaries in the western countryside of Hasaka.
