Sabbagh, Armenian Ambassador discuss parliamentary relations between Syria and Armenia

Damascus, SANA-Speaker of the People’s Assembly, Hammoudah Sabbagh, discussed on Wednesday with the Armenian Ambassador in Damascus, Dikran Kevorkian, means of developing and strengthening parliamentary relations between Syria and Armenia and making use of mutual expertise in this regard.

Sabbagh underlined the importance of historic ties connecting Syria and Armenia and the need for bolstering them to serve the interests of the two peoples, indicating that Syria hosted a lot of Armenians, who survived the brutality of Ottoman genocide, and became part of the Syrian society.

He indicated that the People’s Assembly has unanimously adopted a decision condemning and recognizing the genocide committed against the Armenian people by the Ottoman state in the beginning of the 20th century, describing the decision as historic.

The Armenian Ambassador, for his part, expressed his country’s gratitude and thanks for Syria’s stances, appreciating the People’ Assembly’s decision that recognized the genocide crime committed against the Armenian people, calling on all countries to take similar stance that prevents such crimes from repetition.

The Ambassador reiterated his country’s support and solidarity with Syria until gaining full victory and defeating terrorism, congratulating the Syrians for the victory achieved by the army in Aleppo.
