Damascus, SANA- Chairman of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) Mzwandile Michael Makwayiba affirmed the union’s support to Syria and its people and laborers in the face of the terrorist war waged against them.
In a special statement given to SANA, Makwayiba noted that the union which includes 92 million members will work on exerting pressure on the European governments and the US administration to lift the economic siege and the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria.
Makwayiba said that the WFTU will take a decision during its conference and presidential council in Paris by the end of next March on the necessity of providing full support to Syria and its people and issues, particularly in its fight against terrorism.
The decision will also call for stopping the foreign interference in Syria’s internal affairs and for preserving its sovereignty and independence, according to Makwayiba.
He noted that on the anniversary of its inception in the beginning of last October, the WFTU organized demonstrations across the world to support Syria in its war against terrorism.
Earlier on Tuesday, a delegation from the WFTU, headed by Makwayiba arrived in Damascus to participate in the 27th Conference of the General Federation of Trade Unions which will be held from Feb. 13th to 16th.
