Quneitra, SANA_ The long years of captivity in the prisons of the Israeli occupation could not undermine the will and determination of Sedqi Suleiman al-Maqat, who has been fully confident that Syria will triumph in its battle and that the occupied Syrian Golan will inevitably return to the homeland, Syria.
A massive popular reception was held for al-Maqat upon his arrival to Baqatha town in the occupied Syrian Golan.
Al-Maqat said that now I have been freed with the captive Amal Abu Saleh and tomorrow, the Golan will be liberated from the occupation and President Bashar al-Assad will raise the Syrian flag in every square of the Golan.
He stressed that the Syrian will has triumphed over the will of the occupier, saying that our presence here in the occupied Golan and the raised Syrian flag indicate that this achievement was a pure Syrian one.
People of Quneitra and the occupied Syrian Golan affirmed that releasing the dean of the Syrian captives in the Israeli occupation jails Sedqi Suleiman al-Maqat is a victory for the will of the steadfastness and life over Zionist arrogance as it is a completion of the victories of our Syrian Arab army over terrorism in the battlefields along the Syrian territories.
They renewed the pledge to liberate every inch of the occupied Syrian Golan as to return to the Syrian national sovereignty, expressing their happiness, pride in the icon of the Syrian resistance who breathed freedom and returned to his homeland.
In a telephone conversation with SANA reporter in Quneitra, Suleiman al-Maqat, the father of the released captive, expressed his overwhelming happiness over the releasing of his son, affirming that the captives are the living martyrs who will write history of nation struggle.
He greeted President Bashar al-Assad, the Syria Arab army and the Syrian people.
Al-Maqat had previously rejected his release on the condition of deportation from the occupied Syrian Golan and his hometown Majdal Shams, emphasizing his belonging to his homeland, Syria, adherence to the Syrian Arab identity and to his right to live in his native home.
The occupation authorities released al-Maqat in August 2012 after 27 years in prison and arrested him again on February 25, 2015 after assaulting his family’s house in Majdal Shams in the occupied Syrian Golan. They accused him of documenting the Israeli occupation forces cooperation with Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists.
On May 16, 2017, Israeli authorities issued 14-year imprisonment sentence against al-Maqat after postponing his trial dozens of times.
Sedqi al-Maqat was born in Majdal Shams in the occupied Syrian Golan on April 17, 1967.
