Baku, SANA – The leaders of the Non-aligned Movement (NAM) member states affirmed their commitment to opposing any step that would undermine the unity and territorial integrity of Syria, asserting their commitment to its sovereignty and rejecting interference in its internal affairs.
This came in the closing document of the XVIII Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Non-aligned Movement, which was held at Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
The document denounced the support provided by Israel to terrorist organizations, in addition to condemning the heinous crimes od Daesh, Jabhat al-Nusra, and other Al Qaeda-affiliated terrorist groups.
The NAM heads of state and government reiterated their support for Syria in reclaiming the occupied Syrian Golan, denouncing the unilateral declarations by US President Donald Trump in which he claimed that the occupied Syrian Golan belongs to the Israeli occupation entity, saying that this declaration is illegal and arbitrary.
The document called on the Security Council to denounce the aforementioned US provocations which violate international law and UN principles and resolutions, which affirm that any steps taken by Israel to change the legal or demographic status of the occupied Syrian Golan are null and void.
The NAM leaders also voiced rejection of all US and European sanctions imposed on Syria and NAM states for political reasons, stressing that the sanctions imposed by the US and Europe on Syria have negative effects on the lives in Syria, are incompatible with international law, and violate the UN Charter, demanding that these actions be lifted.
