Biopesticide plant in Hama put into service

Hama, SANA – On occasion of the 46th anniversary of October Liberation War, the Trichoderma Biopesticide Plant was put into service, and the cornerstone was laid for the Eichhornia Biocontrol Lab.

This biopesticide plant, which is affiliated to the Agriculture Ministry and the Microbiology Labs at the Veterinary Medicine Faculty of Hama University, is the first of its kind in the Middle East.

The plant produces the Trichoderma fungus which is used to combat various types of pests that affect plants in a manner that protects the environment from the side-effects of chemical pesticides and preserves biological equilibrium, all at a low cost.

The plant contains chambers for spawning and growth and producing the biopesticide, which employ UV sterilization, mechanical filters, and light filters.
