Mikdad: Conspiracy against Syria sought to undermine Palestinian cause

Damascus, SANA – Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad affirmed Syria’s support for the Palestinian people in their struggle against Israeli occupation, stressing that the Israeli enemy is behind the terrorist aggression that targets Syria, Palestine, and the Arab region.

Meeting Mahmoud al-Habbash, Supreme Judge of Palestine and Advisor to the Palestinian President on Religious Affairs and Islamic Relations on Monday, Mikdad said that undermining the Palestinian cause has been one of the goals of the conspiracy that has been targeting Syria for the past eight years.

He also condemned the terrorist attacks on Palestinian camps and Israel’s crimes against Palestinians.

For his part, al-Habbash asserted Palestine’s support for Syria under the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad, saying that Syria has triumphed over the conspiracy thanks to the steadfastness of its people, army, and leadership.

Following the meeting, Mikdad said in a press statement that Syria is going ahead in its support for the Palestinian people, particularly during these crucial moments that require unity as the Palestinian victory is a victory for Syria and the Arab states.

“After Palestinian sides had canceled previous agreements with Israeli occupation authorities, it has become our duty as Arabs to increase support to the Palestinian people and face the so-called Deal of the Century, carried out by the US administration,” Mikdad added.

Habbash, for his part, considered that it is natural to have permanent coordination and consultation between the Palestinian and Syrian leaderships as the two peoples are one who has common destiny and purposes.

“We are here to convey the stance of Palestinian people in support for Syria against terrorism, Habbash added.
