Ambassador Bittar underlines necessity of collective adherence to combating terrorism

Caracas, SANA- Syria’s Ambassador to Venezuela Khalil Bittar, head of the Syrian Arab Republic’s delegation to the Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), underlined the necessity of the collective adherence to combating terrorism, halting acts of aggression, ending the occupation and putting an end to the unilateral coercive economic measures.

Delivering Syria’s speech at the meeting, Bittar expressed Syria’s full solidarity with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in preserving its sovereignty and foiling the hostile schemes which aim at toppling the legitimate government in it by force.

The Ambassador affirmed Syria’s categorical rejection of the US flagrant interference in Venezuela’s internal, and its full support to the government of the legitimate President Nicolas Maduro.

Bittar said “Since the conferences of Bandung and Belgrade, our countries have agreed on realizing a peaceful world in which peace, justice, respect, and solidarity prevail …A world that is based on respecting the sovereignty, independence and territorial  of states….”

“Despite of these supreme principles, regrettably some of NAM member states have violated those principles under flimsy pretexts that contradict with NAM principles, the UN Charter and the provisions of the international law in a way that negatively reflected on the historic role of the Movement,” Bittar added.

Bittar said that holding the conference under the slogan of “Promotion and Consolidation of Peace through Respect for International Law” reflects the importance of achieving security and stability through respecting the UN Charter and the international law.

He added that Syria through its experience in dealing with the crisis finds that one of the most dangerous reasons behind undermining the regional and international peace and security is the spread of the phenomenon of benefiting from terrorism on the regional and international levels.

He noted that the tragic events which the world is witnessing nowadays, particularly the terrorist operations by Daesh (ISIS) and Jabhat al-Nusra and all the other affiliated terrorist organizations in Syria and in many parts of our Arab countries and all over the world, are clear evidence on the aggravating phenomenon of terrorism.

Ambassador Bittar indicated that ignoring the phenomenon of supporting terrorism by some influential states and their adoption of  double-standards policy in facing that phenomenon prove that  there is no political will to eliminate that phenomenon and that the international community hasn’t reached the required level of combating terrorism.

He added that the only way for combating terrorism is through the full implementation of the Security Council’s relevant resolutions, affirming that the what the Syrian Government and its allies are doing in that regard for eradicating terrorism from every inch of the Syrian territories is a sovereign right and a legitimate practice of Syria’s constitutional duty in protecting its citizens and preserving its sovereignty from the terrorist acts.

Bittar asserted that Syria has the right to retaliate to the attacks against its sovereignty and territorial integrity according to the provisions of the international law and the UN Charter.

He referred to the fact that the Israeli occupation authorities have went far in practicing state terrorism after the failure of their acts of aggression and conspiracies since the beginning of the crisis in Syria with the aim of supporting  terrorist groups and preventing the Syrian Arab Army from defeating Daesh, Jabhat al-Nusra and other terrorist organizations which are partners with “Israel” in terrorism.

Bittar added that all the Israeli acts of aggression haven’t and will not be able to intimidate the Syrian people who have become more determined to achieve victory over terrorism and to restore the occupied Syrian Golan till the line of June 4, 1967, despite of all the attempts by the US President Donald trump to undermine that right.

“In light of that, we affirm that the crisis in Syria will not make us forget our legitimate and inalienable right to restore the occupied Syrian Golan and to demand stopping the Israeli acts of aggression and its violation of the international law and the international humanitarian law and  to force it to abide by the international legitimacy resolutions,” Bittar said.

Bittar affirmed that Syria rejects the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed by the US and the European Union on some of NAM member states including the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Syria and others as a means for achieving certain political goals and agendas.

He expressed regret that some NAM member states don’t abide by the principled stances of the movement in rejection of the policies of imposing unilateral coercive economic measures.

Bittar added that the government of the Syrian Arab Republic affirms its firm stance which is represented in the fact that solving the crisis in Syria will be through political means based on the intra-Syrian dialogue which is led by Syria without any foreign interference.

He said that the success of the political track depends mainly on providing the suitable atmosphere through the international and regional adherence and unifying all the efforts for combating terrorism in Syria, the region and the world.

Ambassador Bittar reiterated Syria’s principled stance in support of the Palestinian people’s right to determine their own fate and to establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
