Damascus, SANA- Marking the Russian Federation’s National Day, the Russian Embassy in Damascus held a reception ceremony on Monday evening at the Damascus-based Dama Rose Hotel.
In a speech during the ceremony, Russian Ambassador in Damascus Alexander Efimov affirmed that thanks to the exceptional bravery and resilience, the Syrian people under the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad have been able to remain steadfast in the war against terrorism and its backers.
Ambassador Efimov referred to the significant role of Russia in combating terrorism in Syria, affirming that “Russia will never leave its friends.”
He noted that it isn’t acceptable to politicize the file of humanitarian aid provided to the Syrians, calling for lifting the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on the Syrian people and ending the illegitimate foreign presence on the Syrian territory, particularly that of the US occupational troops.
Efimov underlined the importance of solving the crisis in Syria through political means led by Syria, referring to what has been achieved in that domain during the Intra-Syrian National Dialogue held in Sochi.
Attending the ceremony, Assistant Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Ayman Sousan asserted in a speech that Russia has always stood in the face of the colonial policies of the West in protection of the peoples’ rights and their sovereignty and national interests.
He shed light on the rapidly-developing historic relations between Syria and Russia after Russia’s effective participation in the war against terrorism in Syria.
He added that the continued coordination and consultation between the two countries have created common denominators and identical visions towards different issues, particularly those which are related to the political process.
He affirmed that the Syrian Arab Army supported by the Syrian people will continue to fight terrorism and all forms of aggression which is currently embodied through economic siege.
In a statement to journalists, Presidential, Political and Media Adviser Dr. Bouthaina Shaaban said that Syria in cooperation with Russia and all the friends will liberate every inch of its land, affirming that the war Syria wages against terrorism is legitimate and that the Western media is politicized.
For his part, Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Fayssal Mikdad said that the alliance between Syria and Russia mainly aims at combating terrorism, adding that great achievements have been realized through the war against terrorism.
Mikdad indicated that terrorists backed by the West and the Turkish regime are continuing their terrorist crimes with the aim of hindering the implementation of the Security Council’s resolutions which are related to the sovereignty, independence and freedom of the Syrian people.
He wished more success for the Syrian people and their leadership as the world is in need for the Russian role to face the US arrogance which breaches all values of the world’s nations and the international law and the UN charter.
During the ceremony, a documentary on Federal Russia and its relation with Syria was screened.
