Moscow, SANA-Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres the situations in Syria, Venezuela and eastern Ukraine, affirming that there is no substitute for the political solutions to the crises.
Russia Today website quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement on the sidelines of St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) that “During the meeting the two sides exchanged views on the most prominent issues in the international arena including the situations in Syria, Venezuela and eastern Ukraine.”
The statement affirmed that there is no substitute for the political and diplomatic means to solve the crises in these states.
The statement added that the two sides also discussed prospects of improving the efficiency of the UN in the domain of preventing eruption of conflicts and solving them, and the fields of cooperation between Russia and the international organization.
The statement noted that both sides reaffirmed adherence to the principles of pluralism and the priority of the international law in the international relations.
St. Petersburg International Economic Forum started activities on Thursday under the title of “Developing Agenda of Sustainable Development” with the participation of representatives of 140 states and with a notable Arab attendance.
