Mikdad underlines importance of cooperation with DPRK in face of unilateral economic measures

Damascus, SANA- Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Fayssal Mikdad on Wednesday met Vice Foreign Minister of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Pak Myong Guk and the accompanying delegation.

Mikdad underlined the deep-rooted historic relations binding the Syrian Arab Republic and the DPRK in different economic, military and political domains.

He underlined the necessity of bilateral cooperation in the face of the challenges represented in the unilateral economic measures imposed by Western states on Syria and the DPRK.

Mikdad condemned the US disrespect of its obligations which it provided to the DPRK during the talks between the two sides.

For his part, Pak Myong Guk said that his visit to Syria comes to affirm the importance of the relations between the DPRK and Syria, asserting in this regard that the DPRK always stands by Syria and supports its stances at different international forums.

He affirmed the DPRK’s condemnation of the US decision on the occupied Syrian Golan, noting that the DPRK considers the Golan as a sacred Syrian land.

Pak Myong Guk hailed the achievements realized by the Syrian Arab Army and the steadfastness of the Syrian people in the face of the terrorism practiced by Western powers on Syria in all of its forms, the latest of which was the economic war, indicating at the same time that his country seeks to contribute to supporting Syria in the domain of reconstruction.

Viewpoints were identical on the importance of reviewing the proposed opinions and proposals to develop the bilateral relations which should be up to the aspirations of the leaderships and peoples of the two friendly peoples.

Both sides underlined the importance of activating the Joint Economic Committee and the coordination at the international forums.
