Updated- Economic cooperation talks between Syria and Crimea held

Yalta, SANA – President of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, discussed with the Syrian delegation to Yalta economic conference headed by Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Mohammad Samer al-Khalil the economic cooperation between the two sides.

Aksyonov pointed out during the meeting that action groups were formed in different economic spheres as a joint trade house was registered, adding that the next step would be the foundation of a maritime company.

He added the universities and institutes in Crimea are ready to educate students from Syria and to receive children as well as injured from the Syrian Arab Army for recuperation during Summer and Autumn.

In a statement issued at the conclusion of the talks, the Crimean and Syrian sides stressed the common interest and  desire for effective development of relations in all fields.

They stressed the importance of trade and economic cooperation through the agreement between the Crimean Cabinet and the Syrian Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade.

The two sides stressed significance of effective coordination for setting up a mechanism of payment, taking into account the increase of the volume of foreign economic cooperation and the unilateral coercive measures imposed on each of them.

According to the statement, round tables and talks on issues of mutual interest will be held by specialized experts from both sides.

The Syrian and Crimean officials stressed the need to establish a /Syrian-Crimea/ maritime shipping company for transporting goods between the ports the Crimea and Syria within the framework of trade and economic cooperation and the necessity of accelerating the process of concluding an agreement on cooperation between the ports of Crimea and the public company of Lattakia port.

There was an agreement on exchanging delegations in the field of science and higher education in the framework of training Syrian students in institutions of higher education in Crimea, developing cultural relations between both side and on continuing work on preparing and holding cultural events on the territories of the two countries in 2019 and 2020.

On developing cooperation in the field of tourism, Crimea’s delegation expressed readiness to send representatives in field of tourism industry to Syria to study opportunities of cooperation.

Later, Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Mohammad Samer al-Khalil depicted the talks with the Russian side  in Yalta as “constructive and beneficial to both sides.”

The minister described the economic Yalta conference as “an important experiment and achieved good achievements.”
