Education Minister, UNRWA Deputy Commissioner-General discuss cooperation

Damascus, SANA – Minister of Education Hazwan al-Waz said that the Syrian government is following up on the situation of the Palestinian refugees and treating them just like Syrian nationals, expressing keenness on preserving progress made in educational services provided for them.

The Minister’s comments came during his meeting with Deputy Commissioner for United Nations Agency for Deputy Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) Margot Ellis, during which they discussed means of enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two sides.

Al-Waz said that alternative schools have been provided for Palestinian students since the beginning of the crisis in 44 governmental schools in the provinces of Damascus and its Countryside, Aleppo, Sweida, Daraa, and Quneitra.

He noted the Ministry’s efforts to rehabilitate schools and take exceptional decisions and emergency procedures to ensure the safety of students and the continuity of their education despite the disruptive acts committed by the terrorist organizations.

For her part, Ellis expressed gratitude for Syria’s support to the Palestinian people in terms of providing their educational needs and requirements under the current circumstances.

She highlighted the progress achieved in self-learning project conducted in cooperation with the Education Ministry after several joint workshops on revising and adjusting curricula in order to come out with the final version which will be applied experimentally in 6 provinces.
