Over 20 cooperation documents discussed by Joint Syrian-Russian Committee

Damascus, SANA –  Preparatory meetings for holding the 11th session of the Russian-Syrian Commission for Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation kicked off Wednesday at Dama Rose Hotel in Damascus.

Nearly 100 representatives of Russian trade, industry, energy, construction and education ministries, the Quality Control Commission and the Customs Service and more than 20 companies are taking part in the discussions. The Syrian side to the meetings includes Assistant ministers and managing directors specialized in areas of joint cooperation.

Assistant Chairman of Planning and International Cooperation Commission, Thouraya Idelbi highlighted the Syrian government’s efforts to upgrade economic relations with Russia and sign cooperation agreements which serve the interest of both countries.

For his part, Director of Russian Economic Development Department, Evgeny Popov, said that the trade exchange between Syria and Russia increased by 30% over the past 9 months.

He added that the two sides are considering more than 12 cooperation documents in industry, transport, agriculture and treatment of diseases, indicating that the Russian side has thoughtfully studied projects proposed by the Syrian side in the 10th session held in Sochi as well as the contribution of Russian companies in industry and energy sectors.
