Syria, Brazil discuss enhancing parliamentary relations

Damascus, SANA- Arab, Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Committee and the Syrian-Brazilian Friendship Committee at the People’s Assembly discussed with a Brazilian delegation headed by Senator Fernando de Mello means to enhance parliamentary relations between the two friendly countries and peoples to achieve the higher interests of both sides in all domains.

Head of the Arab, Foreign and Expatriates Committee Boutros Murjaneh underlined the importance of joint cooperation between the People’s Assembly and the Brazilian Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.

Murjaneh called for more coordination between the two countries at the international forums to end the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people.

For his part, head of the Brazilian delegation de Mello affirmed his country’s support to the dialogue with the aim of reaching a solution to the crisis in Syria.

He expressed his country’s rejection of the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria as they represent “an attempt to undermine the UN and the international laws and to marginalize the principles of the World Trade Organization.”

Senator de Mello indicated that the Brazilian Embassy in Damascus continues its work despite of the terrorist war waged against Syria.

He added that his country works on alleviating the suffering of the Syrian people through providing donations and humanitarian aid and through supporting the reconstruction process.

De Mello hailed the steadfastness of the Syrian people in face of terrorism and the improvement of the situations in Syria and the beginning of the return of the displaced Syrians to their homeland.
