An array of water and tourist projects inaugurated in Tartous

Tartous, SANA – Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi inaugurated on Thursday an array of vital services and economic projects in the coastal province of Tartous with a total estimated value of SYP 22 billion.

A 24 km pipeline to pump drinking water from Banias city to the city of al-Qadmous and the surrounding villages that can deliver up to 350 cubic meters per hour was inaugurated. The project’s value amounts to SYP 636 million.

The Premier also opened the investment phase of Hanjour well to deliver water to Safita area valued at SYPA 126 million. The project includes a pumping station and a 2400 m pumping line that can deliver 160 cubic meters per hour.

A water treatment plant worth SYP 300 million was also inaugurated in al-Omaliyeh suburb in the city of Tartous.

Premier al-Halqi also laid the foundation stone of a private sector tourist facility with an overall value of SYP 9 billion that could provide 1400 job opportunities.

The facility would include a series of restaurants, multi-purpose halls, chalets, hotels with 1079 beds and swimming pools.

Among other projects inaugurated was Tartous Mall valued at SYP 10 million, which includes 8 restaurants, shopping arcade and a play area for children. The project provides up to 2000 job opportunities.

Holiday Beach Hotel was also opened with a total value of SYP 900 million, providing 380 job opportunities.

Speaking to the reporters, al-Halqi said the inauguration of those vital development projects came under the auspices of President Bashar al-Assad, noting that the inauguration today and that of projects opened in Homs yesterday indicate “the state’s ability to launch the post-crisis stage of building and reconstruction.”

Opening the new projects, he added, is also a sign of the successful partnership between the public and private sectors, with the latter having been working on starting many industrial, tourist and service projects that create job opportunities and support the national economy.

Afterwards, the Premier paid a visit to the private al-Andalus University for Medical Sciences in al-Qadmous where he took part in a ceremony to honor 55 families of martyrs from al-Qadmous held by the University’s administration.

On Wednesday, the Prime Minister inaugurated the fifth and final stage of the youth housing project, the final stage of the savings housing project, and an ER department in al-Mukharam Hospital in Homs city, with an estimated overall value of SYP 5.443 billion.
