Novikov: Syrian-Russian cooperation key to confront int’l terrorism

Moscow, SANA – First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Dmitry Novikov stressed the importance of bilateral cooperation between Syria and Russia in political, military and economic sectors to confront all challenges, especially international terrorism.

Interviewed by SANA correspondent in Moscow, Novikov said that it is three years since Russia joined efforts to fight terrorism in Syria upon an official request by the Syrian leadership, adding that a lot has been achieved in order to restore stability, push forward local reconciliations and liberate large swathes from terrorist groups’ grip.

He pointed out that the settlement in Syria has several courses, including military, political and economic ones, highlighting what has been done to restore life to normal across the Syrian territory.

The Russian diplomat noted that Russia’s decision to deliver S-300 air defense missile systems to the Syrian army aims to protect the Syrian airspace against any future intervention as well as defend the Russian military personnel against any further aggression.
