Alexandria, SANA- With the participation of a delegation from the People’s Assembly, the Regional Seminar on the Sustainable Development Goals and Gender Equality for Parliaments of the Middle East and North Africa, was held in the Egyptian city of Alexandria on Tuesday.
The Seminar is held in cooperation with the International Parliamentary Union.
Head of the Syrian delegation, Mohamed Maher al-Moaqe’e affirmed the importance of cooperation among the parliaments to promote sustainable development.
Al-Moaqee, who also heads the Syrian-Egyptian Parliamentary Friendship Association, pointed out to the obstacles that face the sustainable development in developing countries like pressures, foreign interventions and the economic blockade.
In turn, member of the delegation Nidal al-Hamidi said that the unilateral coercive sanctions imposed by the EU and the US against the Syrian people are one of the main obstacles in the face of achieving sustainable development.
Participants in the seminar, which lasts until September 20, will review the proposed solutions of parliaments to implement the goals of sustainable development through national policies.
