Indonesian Ambassador: We support Syria, continue to deepen ties

Damascus, SANA-Indonesian Ambassador in Damascus Djoko Harjanto affirmed Monday his country’s support for a political solution to the crisis in Syria, adding that Indonesia has never abandoned Syria during the crisis and its embassy continued to work in Damascus to deepen bilateral relations.

Harjanto, during a reception held at Dama Rose Hotel in Damascus on the 73rd anniversary of Indonesia National Day, pointed to the deep and friendly ties connecting the two countries.

He added that Syria was one of the first countries that recognized Indonesia independence and sovereignty.

For his part, Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad said that Indonesia Independence has a special meaning in Syria whose delegation has struggled at the UN to raise Indonesia Independence issue in front of UN Security Council at the end of the 1940s.
