Former Army Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Youssef Ragheb Shakkour laid to rest

Damascus, SANA – Lt. Gen. Youssef Ragheb Shakkour, who was the Chief of Staff of the army and Armed Forces during the October Liberation War, was laid to rest on Friday in an official ceremony.

Senior officers from the Army General Command participated in the ceremony, which observed the official military ceremonies as the coffin was wrapped in the flag of the Syrian Arab Army accompanied by two wreaths, and was carried by the pallbearers to the tune of army music to the Church of the Cross where funeral mass was held.

The ceremony was attended by Minister Mansour Azzam representing President Bashar al-Assad, along with Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad, Assistant Foreign and Expatriates Minister Ayman Sousan, and several official and public figures.

After the mass, the body was escorted to St. George cemetery in Bab Sharqi area, where the deceased was laid to rest.
