Diplomats from Astana guarantor states, UN hold consultations on Syria in Geneva

Geneva, SANA- Russian President’s Special Envoy to Syria Alexander Lavrentiev announced that he along with an accompanying diplomatic delegation will hold a series of meetings on Syria in Geneva on Sept. 10-11, expressing optimism over the outcomes of these meetings.

Earlier, UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura called upon diplomats from the three guarantor states of Astana process, namely (Russia, Iran and Turkey) to Geneva to hold consultations with them.

Russia Today website quoted Lavrentiev as saying upon arrival in Geneva Airport that the meetings will be held on the official and nonofficial levels on Sept. 10-11.

Answering a question by journalists, Lavrentiev indicated that talking about decisions through the consultations between the delegation of the Russian diplomats and de Mistura is “too early”.

The joint statement of the guarantor states of Astana process which was held in Tehran last Friday stressed adherence to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Syrian territories and the continuation of combating terrorism and to the goals and principles of the UN charter.
