Under President al-Assad’s auspices, Internal Security Forces Day marked in Damascus and provinces

Provinces, SANA-Under the auspices of President Bashar al-Assad, the Ministry of Interior marked the 73th anniversary of the Internal Security Forces Day which commemorates the parliament’s guards and security members who were martyred by the French occupation on May 29th 1945.

During a celebration at the Ministry’s building, Interior Minister Mohammad al-Sha’ar relayed President al-Assad’s greetings to members and officers of the internal security forces, hailing their efforts and sacrifices, side by side with the armed forces, to eliminate terrorism.

During the ceremony, a number of martyrs’ family members and injured personnel were honored.

Later in the day, al-Sha’ar, accompanied by police officers, visited the Martyrs’ Hall at the People’s Assembly and met with Speaker of the Assembly Hammoudeh Sabbagh and a number of MPs.

Speaking to journalists, al-Sha’ar said the ministry marks the anniversary as a tribute to the sacrifices of the security members and guards in 1945.

An exhibition extolling the heroism of the internal security forces and an equestrian carnival were also organized in Damascus on the occasion. The march set off from the Umayyad Square and toured the most prominent historical Damascene squares.

Similar ceremonies and activities were held in the Syrian provinces on the occasion.
