Moscow, SANA- Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that the US and its allies’ aggression on the military and civil facilities in Syria constitutes a flagrant violation of the international law and the UN Charter without authorization of the UN Security Council (UNSC).
Russian Sputnik news agency quoted Putin as saying on Saturday that the US and its allies’ missiles aggression on the military facilities and infrastructure in Syria without authorization of the UNSC is considered a breach of the UN charter and the principles of the international law.
He asserted that the US and its allies’ aggression on Syria is an act of aggression against a sovereign state that is in the frontline of combating terrorism.
The Russian President pointed out that the US behaviors could aggravate the humanitarian catastrophe in Syria and the suffering of the civilians.
He reiterated that “Moscow calls for urgent UNSC session to discuss the US and its allies’ strike on Syria.”
Earlier, the General Command of the Army and Armed Forces stressed that most of the missiles fired by the US, Britain and France tripartite aggression on Syrian targets in Damascus and outside it were shot down.
Lavrov: The West couldn’t provide any evidence of the use of chemical weapons in Douma
In turn, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the West couldn’t provide any evidence of the use of chemical weapons in Douma, basing their allegations about what was seen in social media and media outlets.
He said that the British and the French claimed they have concrete evidence, yet when President Putin pressed the French President to provide this evidence, the latter said he couldn’t because it’s “classified.”
Lavrov also rejected the Pentagon’s claims that the strikes were carried out because Syria refused to receive experts to investigate the alleged incident, as the strikes took place in the night when the OPCW team began its investigations in the site of the supposed incident, noting that the Syrian government gave the necessary visas to the OPCW experts.
Rodzkoy: Syrian Air Force downed more than 70 missiles of tripartite Western aggression
Head of the Operations Authority of the Russian General Staff, Sergey Rodzkoy, said that the Syrian Air Force downed more than 70 missiles of the tripartite US, British and French aggression on several military sites in Syria on Saturday at dawn.
He added that the strike was directed on the day that the fact-finding mission of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) was scheduled to start work regarding the alleged use of chemical weapons in Douma.
Earlier today, Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said that the timing of the aggression, which coincides with the arrival of a team from OPCW fact-finding to investigate claims related to the alleged use of chemical weapons in Douma, mainly aims at impeding the work of the mission, anticipating its results and putting pressure on it in an attempt to uncover their lies and fabrications.
