Role of other religions in protecting Islam against politicization highlighted during Awqaf Minister’s visit to Russia

Moscow, SANA – Chairman of the Syrian-Russian Friendship Association Alexander Dzasokhov highlighted the role which religions other than Islam could play to help protecting Islam, being a holy religion, against politicization.

Dzasokhov was speaking during a meeting with Minister of Awqaf (Religious Endowments) Mohammad Abdul-Sattar in the presence of Syria’s Ambassador in Moscow Riyad Haddad.

He stressed the importance of spotting the “points of weakness in our societies,” which he said are being exploited by the enemies to destroy “our countries” and fight Islam in the name of Islam.

He held the Americans and the West responsible for “breeding” extremists and terrorists in the world, stressing that what the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS)- a terrorist organization which has become notorious for its atrocities in Iraq and Syria, “should have been met with a response from all religions.”

Awqaf Minister has been on a visit which included besides Moscow the Bashkortostan and Tatarstan, both are republics of the Russian Federation.

Dzasokhov hailed al-Sayyed’s visit as it contributes to developing cooperation between Russia and Syria in the humanitarian and religious fields.

Al-Sayyed, for his part, expressed thanks to the people and government of Russia for their supportive stances particularly with regard to standing by Syria in the face of the internationally-devised terrorist war which has been imposed on it since 2011.

While underscoring the similarities between the Syrian and Russian societies, the Minister noted that the “right understanding” of Islam is a guarantor of peace and security in the world in general and in “our Arab and Russian societies in particular given the diversity of religions and races that characterize them.”

He said that the internationally-led war waged against Syria-in which Takfiri terrorists are fighting the Syrian people in the name of Islam-is because Islam and Christianity “have embraced each other” in Syria.

Minister al-Sayyed pointed out that he and the accompanying delegation have signed a number of agreements with Islamic centers in Ufa and Kazan, the capitals of Bashkortostan and Tatarstan, respectively.

The agreements, he explained, focus on promoting the teachings of the moderate Islam and providing training to imams and preachers of mosques and dispatching students to learn those teachings and the Arabic language.
