Syria and Lebanon discuss border control procedures

Damascus Countryside, SANA-Lebanese Ambassador in Damascus, Saad Zakhyia, affirmed that work is under way to control the illegal crossings located in the border areas between Syria and Lebanon according to the legal rules.

During a meeting with Damascus Countryside Governor Alaa Ibrahim on Thursday, Zakhyia said that the Lebanese army is ready to cooperate with the authorities concerned in Syria to prevent any cross-border illegal crossing, adding that the file of the Syrian refugees in Lebanon will be dealt with within the humanitarian framework in cooperation and coordination with the Syrian side in order to preserve the dignity of the refugees in the first place and to help them return home.

Commenting on the situation of the Syrian refugees in Lebanon, Ibrahim said that the province is witnessing the return of large numbers of citizens to Syria, especially to the city of Aleppo, adding that about 5 thousand refugees will return to the al-Zabadani area, which was restored by the Syrian Arab Army during the last year.

He noted that the Syrian state is working on the rehabilitation of infrastructure and institutions in preparation for the return of all Syrian families living inside or outside Lebanon.

The Syrian and Lebanese armies are keen to closely monitor the illegal crossings between the two countries, Ibrahim said, adding that “in the near future we will see cooperation (with Lebanon) on more than one level, and Lebanese companies will have a role in reconstruction phase.”
