Damascus, SANA – The Ministry of Industry discussed with a Belarusian delegation from the Minsk Automobile Plant (MA3) the possibility of setting up a truck assembly plant in Syria in cooperation with the General Establishment for Engineering Industries.
Talks during the meeting dealt with the obstacles that may hinder the establishment of the project and ways to remove them, as well as finding an investor accepted by both parties to enter as a partner and financier of the project.
Industry Minister Mohamed Mazen Yousef said that the Ministry of Industry and the Syrian government Are interested in boosting cooperation with Belarus in the economic, technical, and industrial fields, as well as entering into serious and competitive joint projects, especially in the fields of manufacturing trucks, buses, tractors and electric home appliances
and establishing a hollow glass plant.
He added that the Ministry is currently preparing files on joint cooperation with the Belarusian side in order to present them during the meetings of the Syrian-Belarussian Joint Committee for Trade, Economic, and Technical Cooperation scheduled to be held between the 12th and 13th of February in Damascus.
In turn, Belarusian Ambassador in Damascus Alexandr Ponomarev said that his country seeks to promote economic and industrial sectors in Syria, stressing the need to strengthen bilateral relations at various levels.
For his part, Deputy General Manager of MA3 Gennady Viktorovich affirmed the Belarusian side’s desire to establish a factory to assemble trucks and buses in Syria and to find the necessary funding for it, stressing the readiness of his company to provide all components of this plant.
