DPRK Embassy in Damascus commemorates 6th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il passing away

Damascus, SANA- Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Saturday commemorated the 6th anniversary of the death of its leader Kim Jong Il who passed away on Dec 17, 2011.

In a statement, DPRK Embassy in Damascus said that the late leader laid solid bases for the independence, and he worked on upgrading the political, intellectual and military status of the DPRK.

The Late President issued a number of publications on a number of intellectual and theoretical issues.

The statement pointed out to the great progress witnessed by the country during the era of Kim Jong Il in several domains such as the land reform, building water channels and establishing small and medium-range hydroelectric plants, and others.

In a response to the US reckless threats to launch a nuclear war, Leader Jong Ill worked on providing his country with nuclear deterrence capabilities.

Huge projects were carried out during Jong Il era, mainly in the domains of space, agriculture, electricity, tourism and medicine.

Jong Il came into office in 1994, and he was the supreme leader of the Korean popular army and the secretary general of the Korean Labor Party. He passed away on Dec 17, 2011.
