Syria and Iraq discuss cooperation in electricity field

Bagdad, SANA – Minister of Electricity Muhammad Zuhair Kharboutli discussed with Iraqi counterpart Qasim Mohammad al-Fahadawi on Tuesday cooperation between the two countries in the electricity field and preparations for a preliminary memorandum for electricity transmission among Syria, Iraq, and Iran.

The discussions between the two Ministers, which were held at the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, included the maintenance of power lines connecting the two countries that had been damaged by terrorists, paving the way for the triple connection agreement contract.

The two sides agreed on holding meetings for the specialized technical committee for three days to propose all the constructive suggestions and options for the connecting process.

There are two high tension power lines that connect the Iraqi and Syrian power grids, the first one is 155 km long between Al-Qa’im and Taim, and the other is 42 km long between Tal Abu Zaher and al-Sweidi.
