Damascus, SANA – The Syrian government has always been keen on the situation of Palestinian refugees and positively cooperate with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Commissioner-General Pierre Krähenbühl said.
Krähenbühl made his remarks at a press conference at the UNRWA headquarters on Monday where he highlighted the agency’s unremitting efforts and endeavors in cooperation with the Syrian government to provide humanitarian support and protect the Palestinian refugees as well as the safety of UNRWA staff members.
He briefed the press on the results of his visit to Khan al-Sheiyh Camp for Palestinian Refugees during which he inspected the services provided to its residents, in addition to meeting graduates of the UNRWA’s technical and vocational training center in Damascus.
The Commissioner-General underlined the agency’s efforts to reach larger number of people in different areas, estimating the number of Palestinian refugees currently live in Syria to less than 440,000 Palestinians, 47,000 of them were students and they have got the opportunity to continue studying and make use of its medical care services.
