Tartous, SANA – Tartous Governor Safwan Abu Saadi discussed with the representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Syria Sajad Malik and the accompanying delegation the situation of the relief and humanitarian work in the province, the projects targeting displaced families, especially educational ones, and the province’s assistance needs for next year.
Abu Saadi presented a review of the educational situation in Tartous, which now hosts 52,000 children of displaced families, and the need to build two schools in al-Sala al-Riadiyeh and al-Sheikh Saad areas to reduce pressure on schools and alleviate the burden on students.
The governor hailed the efforts of the UNHCR’s office in Tartous, particularly in the relief field and providing aid to the arrivals.
In turn, Malik said that the visit aims at identifying the priority needs of the province where UNHCR will examine the submitted applications and will continue to support small projects.
He added that the UNHCR’s attention is now placed on the Syrians who are returning to their villages and cities and securing the necessary services for them, noting that the UNHCR is working on special programs to help Syrians living abroad who wish to return back home.
