The Syrian Environment Association, the first in Syria, was established in 2001. It works on improving the environmental and aesthetic situation in the country through a variety of activities and projects. It focuses on raising environmental awareness and contributes to issuing legislations on environment protection and biodiversity conservation.

Meanwhile, Syria is participating in the 17th Asia-Pacific Parliamentarians’ Conference on Environment and Development (APPCED), currently held in the Iranian capital Tehran.
