Damascus, SANA – Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad affirmed on Friday that the US aggression on Syria is an aggression as defined by international law, the main objective of which is to weaken the Syrian Arab Army.
In a statement to al-Mayadeen TV, Mikdad noted that the United States threatens security and peace not only in the region but also in the world which will have serious repercussions on the international situation.
“The US aggression today came after the failure of the recent aggression by Israel on Syria and these two aggressions cannot be separated from each other,” he said, pointing out that this new aggression comes in the service of the terrorist organizations that began to suffer from the painful blows directed by the Syrian Arab Army recently.
Mikdad added that the obstinacy that Syria encountered in the Geneva talks showed that this fallen and unreliable opposition which is labeled as “moderate” by some sides, especially by Paris, London, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and others, is not interested in the peace process as much as it is concerned with fabricating allegations that will lead to returning the atmosphere to what it was at the beginning of the crisis, especially after the Syrian Arab Republic succeeded in completely dismantling its chemical program and in persuading the world public opinion that it is ready to resolve the crisis in Syria to serve the aspirations and hopes of the Syrian people in the fight against terrorism following the recent talks in Astana and in Geneva.
He added that the US stance was and remains committed to supporting the terrorists in Syria to achieve the Israeli goals and to weaken Syria, warning the countries that are participating in the aggression against Syria to refrain because they will all pay a heavy price for as terrorist attacks will target them next, and they will suffer from terrorism as the Syrian people are suffering now.
