New Delhi, SANA – Indian Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Surendrajeet Singh Ahluwalia affirmed India’s readiness to help Syria in the agricultural sector and provide the required expertise to contribute to developing this sector which been affected heavily due to the war.
During a meeting with Syrian Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform Ahmad al-Qadiri in New Delhi, Ahluwalia hailed the deep relations between India and Syria and stressed the need to develop bilateral cooperation to serve the interests of the two sides.
For his part, al-Qadiri pointed out that the terrorist war waged on Syria caused significant damage to the agricultural sector and other economic fields, expressing his appreciation of the stances of minister Ahluwalia that indicates India’s keen to enhance its relations with Syria.
He presented a working paper for projects that India could help in implementing in Syria, especially in the fields of scientific agricultural research on drought-tolerant grain varieties and fruit trees, in addition to helping in the sectors of animal and fish resources, training Syrian agricultural technicians in research and production fields and in the field of rearing silkworm to help rural families secure additional income.
Al-Qadiri used the opportunity of the meeting to invite the Indian minister to visit Syria.
The two sides agreed on forming a joint working committee from the two ministries in order to enhance cooperation between Syria and India.
