Damascus, SANA – Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad held the “Western media empires” responsible for “manufacturing” the extremists and terrorists.
“Western countries… realized a long time ago the significance of media, and have provided all forms of financial support to their media empires to enable them to carry out the tasks of promoting those countries’ approaches,” Mikdad said in an article published by the Lebanese al-Binaa newspaper on Saturday.
Those empires, he said, have been misleading the developing countries to “blemish their image and undermine their independence.”
A telling example of those practices was made evident through the “terrorist war declared against Syria where Western media and its Arab affiliates played a role in supporting the killers and gunmen who tried to destroy it,” Mikdad pointed out.
He criticized the disregard on the part of some of the developing countries of the importance of media in steering the public opinion and winning its favor in support of their issues.
While censuring those countries whose people fell victim to the Western media absorbing whatever ideas they provide, Mikdad said “Syria was among the few exceptions where Western media failed to put into effect their misleading campaigns.”
The Syrian media, he noted, has been backed by “honorable” Arab media outlets and figures who “insisted on standing squarely behind their fellow Syrians in defense of truth and integrity.”
The Deputy Foreign Minister likened the West’s use of media in its battle “to preserve its imperialist interests and protect Israel to “a weapon of mass destruction”, warning that unless the developing countries could manage to use this weapon properly, they would not be able to win their just battles.
Mikdad reiterated that the Syrian people hold all the media which have practiced misleading throughout the ongoing crisis in the country and “made heroes out of the terrorists” by feeding the “jihadist” inclination accountable for the shedding of the Syrian blood.
