New York, SANA –Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari, stressed that what the Palestinian people need is not counting their innocent victims or losses after the Israeli aggression, rather they need to liberate their land from the Israeli occupation and practice their right of determining their destiny and achieve independence.
Al-Jaafari’s comments came during a session held on Wednesday by the UN General Assembly to discuss the situation in Gaza.
Al-Jaafari wondered about the double standard policy adopted by the General Assembly concerning the Assembly’s disability to grant millions of Palestinians their legitimate right to self-determination.
He lashed out at some member states for ” hypocrisy and repeated allegations” on protecting the civilians and the necessity of achieving international justice and accountability at a time when these countries continue turning a blind eye to the Israeli savage war crimes in Gaza.
Syria’s Representative reminded of the failure of the UN Security Council to stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza by the end of 2008 and the beginning of 2009, accusing some Arab and western countries of thwarting a draft resolution prepared by President of the General Assembly Miguel D’Escoto at the extraordinary meeting held at that time to discuss the Israeli aggression on Gaza after the failure of the UN Security Council.
“The catastrophic history repeated itself in Gaza today,” al-Jaafari said, pointing out that the UN Security Council is unable to shoulder its responsibilities in keeping international security and peace .
He slammed the so-called “Arab Spring” as it aimed at dumping the Arab countries in creative chaos and undermining the aspirations of the Arab people in peaceful reform far from foreign interference in order to distract the Arab and international attention from their top priority, the Palestinian cause.
Syria’s Representative accused the Israeli government and some Arab regimes of supporting and financing the takfiri terrorism in Iraq and Syria, asserting that Israel is treating the terrorists who committed massacres in Syria at its hospitals.
